I was really glad to see the research and talk that Andrew Bennett, global CEO of Havas' Arnold Worldwide, gave at the 4A’s meeting. His findings are so true and I hope that agency executives make some changes.
Having been in this business for well over 20 years, I have experienced the positive retention efforts by agencies and observed the lack there of. For an industry that has a hard enough time keeping senior level executives, retention of all its employees should be a #1 goal for all of the reasons Andrew states.
There is one more reason that should be even more compelling to agency senior management and that is the impact of turnover on new business. One of the first things that our clients ask us as they are evaluating agencies is how long people stay at the agency. Why? Because this is often one of the main reasons they are doing an agency review. Clients are experiencing turnover on their team and the impact of that on their business is significant.
So I too would say to agency senior management, "Wake up and make employee loyalty a priority."
